LAHORE: Muhammad Maaz Arif, son of former Vice Chancellor of the University of the Punjab, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arif Butt, visited the Centre for High Energy Physics (CHEP), where he met with its Director, Dr. Qadeer Afzal Malik.
During the meeting, M. Maaz Arif and Dr. Qadeer Afzal Malik paid tribute to Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arif Butt and recalled his contributions to the University of the Punjab and the academia. The two also discussed Prof. Dr. Arif Butt’s ability to bring people together and create an environment in which colleagues, students, and academics felt comfortable and valued in his presence.
They discussed their views regarding Khawaja Haris Rasheed and Fazal-e-Aleem, alleging that both individuals played an extremely detrimental role in the University of the Punjab and academia. Dr. Qadeer further stated that he was never comfortable working with them and alleged that they were involved in corrupt practices and now are even afraid to enter CHEP.
M. Maaz Arif’s visit was also seen as a symbolic gesture of continuing the principles of truth, education, and academic integrity associated with his father’s legacy. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arif Butt served as Vice Chancellor of the University of the Punjab from 2007 to 2008. His family and colleagues continue to emphasize his commitment to education, academic values, and bringing people together.
The meeting concluded with a shared resolve to remember and carry forward his educational and academic legacy.
